Source: Why Florence likes leather
One part of Italy appears to have little to fear from globalization. The centuries-old skills of Florence’s leather- goods makers are still in strong demand, and there is no sign they will go out of fashion soon.
Tod’s, one of the luxury brand, says that Florence was a natural choice to build a leather-goods site. They say “It is the expertise among the work force that is so important in the Florence area. They are masters and an expression of a long tradition.”
People evaluate Florence that there is nowhere else in the world that has the same technical expertise.
There may be a cloud on the horizon for Florence’s booming leather-goods industry. Head of the leather-goods department in Florence, said fewer and fewer people want to be in manufacturing: “They all want to become stylists and designers. Young people don’t want to get their hands dirty cutting leather. My biggest concern about the future of the leather-goods industry is not about the market, which is driven by the luxury sector, but the possibility that there will not be enough artisans to meet the demand.”
Italy has lots of tour attractions of course, but Italy is more famous for nice leather, especially florence’s leather is that. When you go to Florence’s leather market, you can easily get nice leather product for reasonable price.
